Calm, controlled clicking works better than wildly clicking at everything. Take some deep breaths and try to get into "the zone".

Hit the fastest critters before paying attention to the slower ones. Squeaky Squirrel is speediest, and Clara Crow is next fastest.

When there are no critters on the screen, try to keep your mallet centered to be ready to go in any direction. There are slightly more critters on the right side of the screen than the left side, so your neutral position should be a bit right-of-center.
